So, how does having Christmas fun with your child help with their academic learning?
1. Making gingerbread houses
Let your child cut out shapes from different coloured icing. This is an excellent opportunity to work on fine motor skills and talk about colours, counting and shape recognition.
2. Crafting holiday decorations

Reading festive books builds vocabulary and helps to develop children's literacy skills. The best thing about reading is that it can be done alone or as a family bonding activity.
6. Making a list for Father Christmas
Writing to Santa is a fun way for children to get into the Christmas spirit. Writing requires imagination and creativity, motor skills such as letter formation and the ability to follow instructions and complete a task, which are all essential pre-writing skills.
7. Baking Christmas treats
An enjoyable way to spend time with your kids while promoting mathematical understanding. Let your child measure ingredients and follow the recipe to bake a cake or make cookies. It also promotes literacy as your child will need to understand the words on the packet of ingredients, know what temperature the oven needs to be and so on. It can even promote hand-eye coordination too!
